How to Add Subtitles to Your Videos On the Go with the VEED Captions App

What if we told you that you'd lose 80% of engagement on your video if you posted them without captions? Well, it’s true. About 80% of your viewers are more likely to watch your videos if they have subtitles.

If you’re a video creator, you’ll know that adding captions to your videos can be frustrating. Uploading your video to a desktop, importing it to editing software, and then manually generating the captions is time-consuming.

The good news is there’s a solution for the busy creators that makes it all easy: the VEED Captions app. With this free application, you can instantly generate and customize subtitles of your videos on your mobile device while on the move.

Let’s explore how the mobile app can help you make engaging, professional-looking videos in seconds.

What’s Possible With the VEED Captions App?

The VEED Captions mobile iOS app is a convenient solution for those on-the-go creators who don’t always have a laptop on hand or just prefer to work on mobile devices.

Here are some of the accessible video-making tools you’ll have to hand when you download the app:

Subtitles

Gone are the days of painstakingly transcribing videos. The online translator tool works in seconds, generating subtitles in more than 100 languages with 98.5% accuracy — and you can easily edit words or phrases after auto-translating.

Customizable Presets

Add vibrancy to your captions with a range of preset styles and fonts. There are a ton of effects and animations to play with to make your videos’ personality pop (soon, you’ll also be able to create your own custom presets).

Translations

Conveniently translate your captions to 100+ languages and reach a universal audience with your videos. The translator can detect different accents and is over 95% accurate, so you can rest easy knowing your content is accessible to any listener.

Resizing and Placement

The app uses VEED's AI to automatically generate your subtitles and place them perfectly on your video, without compromising your recorded content. You can change the aspect ratio of your clips for any platform, and create seamlessly tailored videos in a fraction of the usual time.

Each app feature will lend itself to making your videos more accessible. Simple and free to download, here are the steps to help you begin creating videos at a fraction of your usual video production time.

Note: As of now, VEED Captions is optimized for the iPhone. It also works on iPad and MacOS, with plans for launching on Android currently underway.

How to Use the VEED Captions Mobile App

Step 1: Download and Launch the VEED Captions App on Your Device

Head over to the App Store, and search for the VEED Captions app on your mobile device. Then download.

Step 2: Import or Record Your Video

Tap the blue + icon in the middle. From there, you have two options:

  • Tap on Choose a Video if you already have a video saved on your device. This will open up your gallery, where you can select and upload your video.
  • Tap on Record if you’d like to record something directly from the app. Tap on the red recording button and start recording. Once done, review your video. You can do a retake if you’re not satisfied or tap on Use Video if you’d like to proceed to the next step.

Note: you’ll need to allow the VEED Captions app to access your phone’s camera and microphone if this is the first time you’re using it.

Step 3: Generate the Subtitles

Tap on Language and select the original language being spoken in your video from the dropdown list. Once done, tap on the blue button that says Add <Your Selected Language> captions

The VEED Captions app will now begin to automatically generate the subtitles of your video. Depending on how long the video is, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Once done, you’ll be redirected to the editor, where you can play around with the placements, wordings, and styles of your newly generated subtitles.

The app is 99% accurate. If you spot a rare mistake, like an uncommon name or a mispronounced word, you can conveniently edit it right there and then by simply tapping on the words that appear on your screen.

You can also format your subtitles. For example, if you want to emphasize a certain word, bold and underline it.

(Optional) Step 4: Translate Your Subtitles

Want to increase the reach of your video? Translate your subtitles and take your content global. To do this, tap on the translate icon in the top-right corner of the app (within the editor) and then tap on Add translation +

Next, you’ll see a Translate captions pop-up. Select the language you want your subtitles to be in and hit Translate. Wait a few seconds, and your subtitles will appear.

(Optional) Step 5: Experiment with the Style of Your Captions and Your Video Dimensions

In the top right corner, you’ll find the ‘Format’ and ‘Style’ buttons. Click ‘Format’ to resize your video for any platform and ‘Style’ to experiment with different fonts, effects, and animations. There are options for every type of video, so add some personality and make your video your own.

Step 6: Export and Share Your Captioned Video

Looking good! Once you’re all set, tap on the Blue checkmark in the top-right corner of the screen. Select ‘Export,’ then share your finished video on whichever social media platform you like.

Note: Want to remove the VEED watermark from your video? Consider upgrading to a Pro plan by clicking the Try Mobile PRO button in the upper left-hand corner..

Add Instant Captions On the Move

Now you’re all prepped, it’s time to give the VEED Captions app a go.

User-friendly and quick to process, you can create on-brand, engaging videos in a matter of minutes, wherever you are. Did we mention that it’s free to download the app, too?

Add your captions to your videos and watch your engagement skyrocket.
